FUNDRAISING AUCTION AT CLARE PRIORY 19th June 2010

Clare Antiques and Interiors organised a very successful auction to raise funds for the Augustinian Youth Encounter 2010.  Sr Eileen at Clare Priory asked for our help to raise money for the Augustinian Youth Encounter and we suggested an auction at the Priory.

Our own dealers at Clare Antiques and Clare local businesses donated quality items and gift vouchers in the weeks leading up to the auction and many of them were there to bid last night.

Robin Stone was an excellent auctioneer on behalf of Clare Antiques and duly organised the cataloguing and display of lots with his team of helpers in the days leading up to the auction.  Robin was impeccably dressed on the night,  and the bidding progressed vigorously under his gavel throughout the evening.  All 185 lots were briskly disposed of and there were many bargains to bid for.

The auction has raised an astounding amount of

                                                                                                         £2,500

for the Clare Priory Augustinian Youth Encounter and the evening was declared a great success.

LOOKING BACK ON 2009

It was a hectic year at Clare Antiques with many and varied furniture and gift items being purchased and delivered to homes up and down the country.   People came in search of  statement pieces for every room in their house. The warehouse got busier and busier as the end of the year approached with November being the busiest month.  The staff were scurrying about shifting furniture in and out, up and down, backwards and forwards.

Busy period at Christmas time

Then came a quieter period as our customers braved the snow and ice on Malting Lane to buy their last-minute Christmas gifts.

Earlier in the year, we had plenty of fine weekends from the May Bank Holiday onwards with many visitors exploring the Clare environs and browsing through the old Mill building.   One could have a rest and a chat at a table on the verandah outside, relaxing with one’s purchases, and watching the comings and goings.

Many visitors bring their dogs for a walk in Clare Country Park and afterwards wander in to Clare Antiques, where they can sit outside on our verandah on a fine day and enjoy refreshments.  We have a trough of fresh water for the dogs.

Who will you find at Clare Antiques and Interiors?

Clare Antiques and Interiors has the best team of staff in Europe.  Each one is unique in his own particular sphere.  When they come together, they are awesome.  They cater for the needs of nearly a hundred dealers who entrust their wares for presentation in designated spaces within the building.  Their dedication is beyond belief.  Their enthusiasm is akin to none.

David runs the warehouse building in its entirety like clockwork. He was described in one of the glossies recently as “leaping from floor to floor like a gazelle”.  David is a man of many talents.  This enables him to transform from chief executive to financial director and from advertising mogul to public relations, all in the blink of an eye.  He also makes his own bread.   David excels as a multi tasker and he is a trouble shooter of the highest calibre.  Our dealers often telephone David for advice and his counsel is much sought after.  His quick fire wit and humorous asides are legendary.

Michael is an artistic guru and he can turn the gloomiest space into a breathtaking display that packs a powerful punch.  His ensembles are innovative and smart.  With a tweak here and a pinch there, Michael can transform a lacklustre set into an exciting visual concept to delight the senses and create maximum impact.  His opinion in style and fashion is positively clamoured after.  Many clientele travel a great distance to see Michael, they desire that his flair will rub off on them.

Robin is a super salesman who catapults around the warehouse armed with his encyclopedic knowledge.  He can frequently be heard saying “that could be yours, madam”.  There’s nothing worth knowing about that he doesn’t know in the field of antiques.  Robin loves to be challenged on his knowledge and he always delivers the goods.  He has a cheery word and a new joke for every situation.  Robin always comes up with a novel logistical solution for the buyer at home and abroad.

Clare Antique Warehouse

The warehouse is a huge outlet for lots of different dealers on four floors under one roof.  The atmosphere is always friendly and busy with furniture and interesting items coming and going all the time. There are two staff members on hand at all times, combinations of either David, Michael or Robin. The staff are very helpful and funny and usually running around looking after customers and moving things around or in and out of the building.
